Yosemite National Park: Hiking the High Sierra Loop Trail

Yosemite National Park High Sierra Loop Trail

About three and a half hours drive from San Francisco, the High Sierra Loop Trail in Yosemite National Park is a scenic loop great for day trips, or overnight stays, with some of the most iconic wilderness in the Sierra Nevada. 44km (27 miles) long, and with a peak elevation over 9,000ft, the hike can be done over multiple days, with a series of rustic cabins (requiring permits) along the way, or camping.

It features a mixture of highlights including many rivers, mountain views of Yosemite Valley, forested areas, meadows, fishing, and swimming spots. It’s absolutely worth a visit if you find yourself in San Francisco with a few days to fill.
